The green of maple and chestnut leaves, seen against the sun, is transparent. The pond next to it seems almost black.

Through the dark, gluey surface of the water one can see moving shadows of huge carp with silvery red scales.

This is their promenade. They lead a quiet life here.

Unknown to them are the dangerous expeditions of migrating salmon, clear mountain water, the delighted leaps of trout. The park is the only region they know, their province, their paradise. They long for nothing else.

It is better to be careful, however, judging the happiness of others.
